What and who is behind ComicShares.Com?
Action Comics #1. Detective Comics #27. Fantastic Four #1. Amazing Fantasy #15. Incredible Hulk #181. Giant-Sized X-Men #1. Whether you're a serious or casual collector, you dream of having these milestone books in your collection and not just any copy, but the best...as in high-grade copies. But as these books continue to appreciate, their price becomes further out of reach for most individual collectors.
Enter ComicShares.Com, which is run by Comic Trek, a privately-held family business specializing in the retail sales of comic books, entertainment magazines, and related memorabilia. Our main sales channels are an online store (www.comictrek.com) and eBay (Power Seller, ebay id: justaleague). ComicShares.Com is a new venture that emphasizes the joy of collecting while always considering the investment aspect.
How does ComicShares.Com work?
ComicShares.Com offers for sale ownership of a high-end, CGC-graded comic book. Ownership is obtained by buying shares of these comic books ("items") via the gotCGC Shares Market (GSM). Shares can be purchased from ComicShares.Com share owners via the Trading Floor.
Are there any fees associated with buying and selling in the ComicShares.Com Shares Trading Floor?
There are never any fees for buying shares. For Trading Floor transactions, a 5% commission will be charged to the seller for any completed sale.
How do I fund my ComicShares.Com account?
Funds can be deposited into your account via PayPal (including credit card), check or money order. The preferred funding source is PayPal since this is the fastest way to get funds into your account. The funds must come from a verified PayPal account as funds from non-verified PayPal accounts will be denied. Most PayPal payments will usually be credited to a user's account within 1 business day of receipt. PayPal payments made by eCheck will be credited after they have been cleared by PayPal (usually 5 business days). The minimum amount for funding an account via PayPal is $25.00.
Funds will also be accepted by check or money order. Funds from money order will be credited to the user's account upon receipt. Checks will be credited to the user's account after it has cleared (minimum of 4 business days).
What is a CGC certified/graded comic?
Comics Guaranty, LLC (CGC) was the first provider of independent, impartial, and expert third party grading service for the comic book industry. CGC revolutionized the comic book marketplace by employing a consistent grading standard that has become widely accepted as the comic book industry standard. CGC’s professional grading team and service remains the most respected and trusted despite the rise of other companies offering grading services.
The CGC expert grading team's review of a comic book includes a thorough
restoration check. When detected, restoration is specifically noted on the
grading label, or visible through a different colored label. After establishing a grade, the comic book is "slabbed", which means it's placed in CGC's protective holder. The holder displays the comic book, and the label provides the comic book's essential information (title, issue number, date, grade, restoration (if any), pedigree (if any) and/or significant event in the book (character's first appearance, death of a character, etc.)
CGC graded books sell at a premium of anywhere from 10% to 1,000% of Overstreet Value due to the increased confidence buyers and sellers have in the product. With a consistent grading standard and a tamper-evident protective holder,
buyers and sellers know what to expect of a CGC graded book.
Buyers know what they're getting and sellers are more confident they're getting paid a fair
price for their book's condition.
Where will the valuable items be stored? Will I ever see them?
All items will be stored in a secure, climate-controlled environment to maximize the preservation of the items. Many of the high-priced items will be stored in a secure, off-site, climate-controlled environment.
The plan is to showcase the items at conventions as part of an overall promotional effort for ComicShares.Com. Members will be able to view the books and take pictures with them. The plan is to bring these to the San Diego Comic Con, a couple of the Wizard World shows and Wonder Con.
Will an Item ever be sold?
There may be circumstances where an item is sold from the ComicShares.Com portfolio. In all cases, at least 75% of the voting shares (one voting share per share owned) must approve the sale. The sale price for the remaining shares must be equal to the price per share of the last 15 transactions for the item.
Each serious offer will be considered on a case-by-case basis. A sample scenario for a sale is if a user accumulates a high percentage of an item (at least 50% of the shares for an item), the user may make an offer for the remaining shares. Another scenario is for a buyer to make an offer to purchase an item. In such a case, the buyer must make a down payment equal to at least 25% of the item's market value.
In any potential sale scenario, the item will be removed from the Trading Floor. A vote will be held to allow each owner to vote their shares for or against the trade. The voting window will be open for 7 days. At the end of the voting window, 75% of the shares voted must vote for the sale in order for the item to be sold. Users not submitting a vote will be treated as abstaining from the vote and will not be counted towards the voting totals. After payment has been received, the funds will be distributed to the ComicShares.Com accounts of the item's shareholders in proportion to their ownership of the item.
